The Level 6 Diploma Course is specifically designed to respond to the demands of today's entertainment industry and produce confident, articulate and multi-skilled performers. Ideally, but not necessarily, students should be working at Intermediate or above dance standard at the time of audition. Some prior acting and vocal training or experience is also beneficial but again not essential.
Students who successfully audition for the course will be offered either the Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre which is awarded through Trinity College (London) OR The Italia Conti Arts Centre Musical Theatre Diploma. Throughout the course students who achieve the necessary skill levels are encouraged to take external examinations in varying theatre disciplines with recognised outside boards. Progress is carefully monitored and regular tutorials and assessments, together with the annual 'Directors Audition', ensure students get continual feedback on their progress and are achieving the necessary standards required for progression to the next year of the course.
The course structure combines professional vocational training with contextual studies, with the emphasis on achieving multi-disciplinary excellence throughout. Students undertake an exciting variety of projects, workshops and performances during their courses. Media Arts are considered a vital part of today's training and students benefit greatly from using the Arts Centre's audio/video/IT facilities.
YEAR 1 (Level 4)
Students focus on a broad-based core curriculum concentrating on achieving strong basic technical skills in dance, acting and singing. Contextual studies in anatomy, health & safety, history of musical theatre and drama & theatre studies provide related academic content. In-house student productions allow for the development of artistic confidence and peer co-operation.
YEAR 2 (Level 5)
Timetables are individually adjusted to allow for personal strengths and needs. Students now begin to consolidate the technical competence achieved in the first year and place greater focus on artistry and presentation skills. The curriculum is widened to include specialist subjects such as stage combat.
YEAR 3 (Level 6)
Course content prepares the student for professional work by integrating the technical, theoretical and artistic concepts of the course in performance. While maintaining attendance at technical classes, students at this level are expected to acquire and develop depth and style in performance and are given the opportunity to perform in public productions.

The entrance audition comprises of four components - Dance, Acting, Singing and Interview. All four audition components will take place on the same day, and candidates should be prepared to spend at least half a day at the audition. You may wish to bring lunch or a snack to the audition, as breaks between sections will not be long enough to leave the audition site. Also, please note that family and friends will not be permitted to observe the audition and depending on the set-up of the audition site may not be able to have contact with the applicant until their audition is finished.
International applicants may request to audition via Audio/Visual Submission. International candidates wishing to audition in this manner should contact firstname.lastname@example.org to request the Audio/Visual Audition pack once they have completed their application and paid the audition fee.
Regular workshop sessions are held to give students the opportunity to work with directors, choreographers and industry professionals whilst training. During the 3rd year students take part in two Musical Productions and their final Showcase whereby agents are invited, and Italia Conti has connections with many of these.
Students who successfully complete the Level 6 Trinity Diploma can apply for a BA (Hons) conversion course. The Diplomas are an APL route onto some MA programmes, including the MA Professional Practice at Middlesex University. However, students may first wish to acquire a more academically oriented qualification at the same level.
Therefore, Trinity College London is pleased to confirm that graduates wishing to convert their Professional Performing Arts Diploma to a degree can now apply to Middlesex University to study for the BA (Hons) Professional Practice. This degree has been created especially for graduates with a Professional Performing Arts Diploma. The course gives participants the opportunity to extend their Diploma to a BA (Hons) while carrying on their professional activities. (Source: Trinity College, London Website)
